I have a few new projects in mind...

Midterm Artist Statement

When I work with digital media, I am reminded that the world is full of opportunities and my limits really are endless in that I can combine essentially every other form of art into a single compound project.  I can create a more profound impression on my audience and work in a clean environment while still creating new pieces and exploring thoughts and ideas; its powerful and unleashing.

I begin a piece by living. Literally.  Throughout the day I take pictures and make sketches, as well as mental notes of things I associate with feelings and ideas.  These thoughts and events eventually combine to create complex combinations of characters, objects, layouts, colors, and emotions.  After a thought combines, I reference the materials gained throughout my days in a piece.  Its a scheme, a maneuver, and who better to translate my thoughts and profound happenings than myself? Its translating those events to others that I try to work on.  People can either take my work for its face value or really delve into the composition and become a part of it, like I have in it's creation.  There is always a deeper story woven into my work's essence.

I'm very interested in the interaction of styles and competing areas of interest.  I like to see people figure things out. Its like a story, and Im forcing it on people. Psychology can be delicious if you're in the mood.  The processes of scanning in textures, working with my photography, utilizing all tools before me, and mixing my medias fascinate me and I am always seeking to improve my skill set surround them.

I know a piece is done when I can show people my work and they can at least give me feedback similar to what I had in mind during its creationary complexion.

When my work is going well, I am filled with a sense of relaxation, ease, and warm sense of knowing my work fully in its every aspect. My thoughts become free-flowing and my work begins to transcend layers in my mind.  I want to see it completed and its meaning flowing forth from the media chosen.  I need it to. People need it to. Thats how it feels to be on the edge of a project, on the edge of creation.  I become god's hand at work, and my piece becomes a gift for thought.

When people see my work, I'd like them to be able to see deeper than the image. I want the colors to feel, the characters to speak, and the background to recede into their softened senses.  I strive for communication always, and above all else, I want my story to be complete.
